Bio: Dave Hughes is a Technical Advisor at CIPH. He has over 40 years of experience in the plumbing and heating industry and has worked with gas, boiler systems, solar thermal water heating systems, radiant floor heating systems, hydronic system controls, and residential and commercial hydronic system design. He has served as chair of the Canadian Hydronics Council, and vice-chair of the CSA B214 Technical Committee. Active in the hydronics industry, Dave spearheaded the creation and implementation of the CHC Certified Hydronic Designer and Hydronic Installer programs.

There is new code language in the 2020 NPC to use as well as enabling standards to reference and apply to create best practices for water reuse, rainwater harvesting and enhanced code applications like in the VBBL to further carry the ball forward on water conservation.

Bio: Kevin Wong is the Canadian Codes Manager with UPONOR. He has a background in plumbing, business, water quality and environmental engineering. Prior to joining UPONOR, Kevin spent a 12 year tenure as the Technical Manager for CIPH & the Executive Director of CWQA. He has served in senior roles with MIFAB, Cimatec (makers of the ToxBoxTM) and Jacques Whitford Engineering Ltd as a Sr. Project Manager & Scientist in their risk assessment group.

He is actively involved for various US, Canadian and International standards/codes committees including NSF 61& NSF 372 (low lead), B64 (backflow), various WQA committees (water treatment), National Master Spec of Canada, and observes on NSF 444 (Prevention of Injury and Disease Associated with Building Water Systems), the various CSA & NSF committees. Kevin is an active volunteer on the Standing Committee on Plumbing & HVAC at Codes Canada.

The seminar will be an educational presentation on the basics of what FOG is, the history around the development of grease interceptors and the science behind how FOG is separated from water.  It will speak about how the different methods for grease interceptors came about and the factors that influence grease separation. Identify what FOG is and why it is important to municipalities.  Explain how modern grease interceptors came about.  Identify factors which can influence their performance.

Bio: Adam has worked in the plastics industry since 2003.  Frist as a service technician for what was then Nucon Wittmann in their robots and automation division.  He was responsible for implementing the robotic solutions and training the operators of systems all over the Canadian plastics landscape.  He moved on to manage the service department what became Wittmann Battenfled when the Injection Molding Machine producer Battenfeld was brought into the Wittmann family in 2007. 

In 2018 he became Manager of Maintenance and Facilities at Canplas’ plant in Barrie Ontario, and in the fall of 2022 he made a leap into a new career trajectory as Category Manger for the Plumbing and Separation Techologies product lines at Canplas Industries.

Through his 20 years of Industry experience he has attended many industrial trade shows and educated many customers on complex injection molding systems and acompanying auxiliary equipment.

The purpose of this presentation is to use recent data on in-situ DWV systems to highlight:

* Layout and contact with walls and floors are more important for acoustics than pipe material.*
* DWV noise is one of the lower-rated sources of disturbance for occupants relative to HVAC and outdoor noise.*
* ASHRAE noise level criteria is a more practical performance benchmark than either/or selection of pipe material.*

His next role as a code consultant developed his understanding of the building code while providing clients with alternative solutions & firestop engineering judgments. Cory currently supports the consulting and inspection community for IPEX as the regional engineer for Western Canada, providing design support and education on thermoplastic piping solutions.
